Philosophical, poetic, and social commentary. Only in failure can we see ourselves
I consider my painting career a failure, except for years 15 and 21.
But as philosopher Emil Cioran states, only in failure can we see ourselves. During year 15, I created the Tiered Painting technique, which redefined the underpainting, allowing me to hide a painting underneath a painting and then make it visible with backlighting. And in year 21, I found my true artistic voice that now powers both my Tiered and traditional paintings.
Now I'm free, and that's what my art is about. Freedom from inhibitions. Freedom from constrictions. Freedom from ignorance.
Self-taught, I paint both traditional and Tiered acrylic paintings. I've sold hundreds of paintings and many more prints of my work since 2000. I've participated in 8 group exhibitions and 14 one-man shows, ranging from coffee houses to the Bregenz Opera House in Austria.
I'm fascinated by the human condition, which is why I paint race-neutral people and often choose philosophical, poetic, and/or social commentary subject matter. I satisfy my affinity for abstraction with my backgrounds, while satiating my need for figurative, drawing, and writing with my foregrounds.
My failures have indeed helped me see myself. I see that I'm now free - excited and free to make new mistakes to reach levels.
