Photographs of rocks in a rushing stream present a dichotomy of sorts. On the one hand, the boulders are stationary, whereas the water can be totally chaotic. A photographer can shift the emphasis from chaos to calm by employing a longer exposure time, which was my goal here. While a sense of calm pervades the image, it’s obvious that this boulder is in a stream of fast moving water, and a degree of tension remains. I made this photograph with a 4x5 Linhof Teknikardan camera and a 355mm lens.
