The Grand Canyon is one of the more sublime places on earth for any photographer. The visual splendor can be marred by noise from crowds and atmospheric haze. Both distractions were absent on this occasion, and I was able to settle in and appreciate the landscape. This image was made with the last light of the setting sun, which was slightly attenuated by clouds on the western horizon. I was totally taken by the landscape just as it was and felt no need to abstract it. I made this photograph with a 4x5 Linhof Teknikardan camera and a 355mm lens.
